Dr. Preston Kaenel graduated from USC School of Dentistry in 1997. By
finishing in the top 5 of his class, he received Omicron Kappa Upsilon
honors. Though not a native of San Diego, he has lived on and off in
San Diego since 1989. He first moved here to attend UC San Diego. Dr.
Preston is a very conscientious, hardworking individual. He takes the
time and cares about every patient he meets. He stays up to date with
the latest technology by attending continuing education courses. He
also prides himself in setting up the new office with the latest
standards of health and safety. He is a member of the American Dental
Society, California Dental Society and the San Diego Dental Society. Dr.
Preston has been on staff at Scripps Mercy Hospital since 2000. He has
also spent many hours volunteering his time for the underserved
including Saint Vincent de Paul's and UCSD free clinic. He also helped
establish and run the dental clinic at Hoover High School and Mercy
Clinic. Both clinics enabled Dr. Preston to give back to the community
by helping provide dentistry for the underserved. When Dr. Preston is
not busy at the office he enjoys spending time with his two daughters,
playing soccer, running and probably most importantly, racing his 1959
Triumph. |

Dr. Valerie Kaenel received her bachelor’s degree from UC San Diego in biology and her Doctorate of Dental Surgery from USC. She also graduated in the top 5 of her class earning her a place in OKU Omicron Kappa Upsilon, a dental honor society. Upon passing the dental boards, Dr.Valerie returned to San Diego to begin her professional career. After 4 years as an associate dentist, she began working with her husband Dr. Preston to establish their practice Padre Dental Group. Dr.Valerie has spent a lot of her time working on the underserved population as well. Dr. Valerie enjoys the family aspect of their practice working closely together as a team. Patients quickly realize that Padre Dental is a safe and comfortable environment for the whole family. She has a passion for dentistry and is always trying to improve her skills by devoting time to continuing education. She is also a member of American Dental Society, California Dental Society and the San Diego Dental Society. In her spare time, Dr.Val enjoys snow skiing, soccer, running half marathons, playing at the beach and spending lots of time with her two young daughters.

Kelly Kane, RDH Kelly has been practicing dental hygiene since August, 2004. She graduated as the valedictorian from San Joaquin Valley College, earning her associates degree in dental hygiene. Prior to her career as a hygienist, she spent 6 years working as a registered dental assistant. Kelly is a native San Diegan and enjoys gardening, cooking and reading. On their fifth anniversary, Kelly and her husband Michael were blessed with the birth of their first child, AJ. It is Kelly's personal goal to not only educate every patient on dental hygiene but to create an understanding and appreciation for the role they play in their own oral health. She does this by creating a safe and comfortable environment for her patients to ask questions and share fears or concerns. Making sure that she is giving the most recent and up to date information in the field of dental hygiene drives Kelly to continue her education at every opportunity. She attends continuing education courses, and enjoys researching new products. Kelly's patients know that helping them maintain a healthy smile is her number one priority.

Stephanie - Front Desk Coordinator - Stephanie started with Padre Dental Group in October of 2004 and is responsible for the daily front office operations. She is a native San Diegan and enjoys the outdoors. Stephanie has an Associates Degree in Communications from Grossmont College, was a member of their Competitive Public Speaking Team and graduated with Honors. In her spare time, Stephanie coaches people in public speaking and enjoys cake decorating, going to the desert with her husband, David, photography, the sport of motocross, and walking her dog. She is a current member of the American Association of Dental Office Managers. |

Myriam Valdez has been with Padre Dental Group since 2001. She attended Health Occupational Center to receive her RDA and graduated with the highest score in her class. Originally, from Tijuana, Mexico she moved to San Diego in 1987 where she married her husband, Adan. Myriam is the mother of three boys, Adam, Erik, and Ivan. She enjoys spending quality times with her family and friends. Myriam recently completed her studies to become a Registered Dental Assistant with Extended Functions at UCLA. She loves working as a Dental Assistant and likes working in the General Dental office environment. The best part of dentistry for Myriam is when a new patient comes into the office fearful, but then leaves smiling and happy.

April Newton received her RDA from Educational Health Center in November of 2000. Originally from Mexico City, she moved to the United States in 1989. April loves traveling and her favorite to place to visit is Venice, Italy. In her spare time she does a lot of volunteering and enjoys helping others. April loves animals and has two cockatoos, “Papi and Momi”. She is still waiting to find the perfect orange cat and to have a house for a dog. Before her career as a RDA, April worked as a bilingual legal clerk. After working for a dentist for a year, she decided she wanted to become an assistant. April has worked in a variety of dental specialties, but enjoys the general and cosmetic field the most.
